About Dignity Alliance International

Dignity Alliance International is a UK-based charity focused on supporting vulnerable communities by backing locally led solutions that strengthen resilience and support sustainable development across Asia and Africa.

With support from Howden Foundation, the organisation is expanding pioneering parametric insurance products to reach migrant and informal workers in the Philippines and Indonesia. The products will provide cover for climate-related risks including heatwaves, floods, drought, and poor air quality.

Co-designed with local communities, the solution goes beyond insurance to include early warning systems and emergency response measures such as cooling stations.

Evidence from a large-scale study by People’s Courage International (DAI partner organisation) involving 24,000 migrant workers across five countries, highlights the need for this approach. Ninety percent reported being impacted by extreme weather, with heat stress emerging as the top concern.

The programme is expected to reach an estimated 7,500 - 10,000 informal workers across Indonesia and the Philippines.
