About HERA (Climate Resilience for All)

HERA (formerly Climate Resilience for All) is a women-led NGO focused on supporting women and vulnerable communities facing the impacts of extreme heat.

With support from Howden Foundation, HERA is advancing its ‘Women’s Climate Shock Insurance and Livelihood Initiative’ (WCSI), which provides cash assistance and insurance protection when extreme heat conditions become too dangerous for women to work.

In India, the initiative has already reached 225,000 women across 34 districts over two years. In early 2026, with support from Howden Foundation, it expanded to Freetown, Sierra Leone, where it is expected to reach a further 25,000 women over the next two years. This programme is also anticipated to benefit up to 120,000 people indirectly through more stable household incomes and reduced exposure to heat-related health and economic risks.

By supporting women’s capacity and agency to navigate unsafe hot conditions, the programme has contributed to improved income stability and food security, while reducing illness, injury, and vulnerability to exploitation.
