About Rainforest Alliance

By bringing diverse allies together, the Rainforest Alliance protects forests, improves the livelihoods of farmers and forest communities, advances human rights, and supports bold, effective action to build climate resilience.

Howden Foundation is supporting the Rainforest Alliance’s work in San Martín, Peru, a region increasingly affected by rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, and longer dry seasons. This project will support small-scale cocoa and coffee farmers to better understand climate risks, develop localised early warning systems, and increase uptake of the government’s subsidised agricultural insurance scheme, Seguro Agrícola Catastrófico (SAC), which provides cover when crops are lost to climate related disasters.

The Rainforest Alliance holds strong relationships across the supply chain. By improving practices at farm level, they strengthen the climate resilience of manufacturers and traders to help reach emerging climate conscious markets.
