FAQs
The Howden Foundation is a shareholder in Howden. This means that as Howden itself grows, so will the foundation's ability to help more and more people.
Currently we do not accept unsolicited applications for funding or run an open application process, simply because we do not have the resources required to review a vast number of applications. We are also mindful of the time that goes into developing grant applications, and don’t want to raise expectations which cannot be met.
Instead, we proactively source partnership proposals through our networks, which we seek to ensure are as diverse, far-ranging and varied as possible.
As our funding ambitions grow, so too will the number of partnerships that we are able to support. Whilst the majority of our partners are based in, or focused on the Global South, this is not a requirement, but a consequence of the fact that this is where the worst impacts of the climate crisis are currently occurring.
We always hold an initial conversation with potential partners to see whether we are a good fit for each other, before working with them to develop a partnership proposal.
The first step is a simple expression of interest form (EOI), which is reviewed by external experts before being put to our trustees. The trustees then might decide to invite a full application, which is when the deeper work starts.
If our trustees decide we can’t for any reason move forwards at that stage, feedback will be offered by the partnerships team.
All Howden employees are eligible to receive match funding from our People-First Fund, and to nominate their favourite charity for an Howden Foundation Charity Award.
Information about how to apply can be found on internal Howden channels. If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch via the Contact page of this website.
